The fifth and penultimate round of the international regional series Porsche Sprint Challenge Ib\u00e9rica is scheduled for this weekend, October 5-6. The double race is expected to take place in Jerez de la Frontera, at the famous Circuito de Jerez – \u00c1ngel Nieto racetrack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This circuit was inaugurated in December 1985 and was Spain’s major racetrack for several years. It was particularly popular in the 80s and 90s, when it hosted seven Formula 1 races – the Gran Premio de Espa\u00f1a (1986-1990) and the European Grand Prix (1994,1997). The most famous race was the 1997 European Grand Prix, the final round of Formula 1, where a battle between Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve was to decide the 1997 World Champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is one of the most stable tracks in Europe – its configuration has remained unchanged for thirty years! The last changes were made in 1992 (after a big reconstruction) and 1994 (one chicane added). The course offers participants many long and short straights, a variety of turns (mostly fast and gradual). The lap record for Porsche Carrera Cup cars is 1:46.556 (average speed 149.600 km\/h).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
